With the Fall semester in full swing, classes should be the main priority for students. Yet, this year’s New York Fashion Week seems to be leaving a far larger impression.
After eight straight days of previews and killer parties for the spring 2013 season–including New York’s wildly popular Fashion’s Night Out (FNO, shown in photo)–students from City College are quickly incorporating new trends into their style around campus.
“Fall is all about black!” says Jamiel, an inspiring artist while fumbling through his bag. “Like for me I wear a lot of gothic, grunge style that I’ve been seeing a lot.”
Fellow freshmen Kenneth, wearing a simple graphic black tee, blue jeans and long black hair agrees: “Yeah, I see a lot of dark colors on guys and if someone wears bright colors it is usually to make themselves stand out.”
While the trend for guys is all about the dark tones Aaliah, a recent graduate of City College, who describes her style as “polished bohemian” says bright nail colors are the “it” accessory for any girl.
“I definitely noticed designers playing with nails this year,” she says. “I mean I’m trying this new manicure style that includes a dark bottom polish and a bright tone on top that resembles a reverse French manicure.”
Aaliah gushed about FNO, the street party and shopping party that kicked off the week. She appreciated the organizers keeping an eye on the bottom line during a tough economy.
“It appears like this year’s Fashion Week is catering to everyone’s economical needs,” she says. “Everything is so wearable this year and way more affordable then previous years.”
