Do you take selfies? I take selfies. The Campus‘ social media coordinator, Jaquelin Bautista, is a selfie expert; she is in charge of branding our beautiful magazine on social media. She has praised and critiqued 😅 my selfies based on lighting, composition, angle, background, and props. I took the photos with the iPhone 6. Enjoy!
Location: Nat Holman Gymnasium in the Marshak Science Building
Caption: Deuces at the CCNY Club Fair in the gym.
Review: Wow! What a great selfie. The lighting is bright and even. The solid background really allows for the eye to focus on the subject. A lower angle might not always be a flattering angle but Clark knows his angles. Bonus points for the playful peace sign and duck face.
Location: Shepard Hall Lawn
Caption: Gray day in front of an epic facade.
Review: Again another lower angle, but Clark is really making this shot work by capturing Shepard Hall’s best angle. Lighting is just right, you can see the details in the architecture. The glasses add spunk to this picture, no facial expression required!
Location: Financial Aid Office in the Howard E. Wille Administration Building
Caption: Waiting for my number, B640, to be called.
Review: This selfie definitely has a lot of personality. While the lighting isn’t optimal, you can’t ask for too much from the financial aid office. Adding a snack into this shot really brought back life into this location and selfie. Another low shot, be sure to switch up the angle.
Location: Escalators on the 5th floor of the NAC
Caption: The escalators don’t work and now there’s a sign to tell us.
Review: A casual angle with a fun smirk really brings the joy back into such a frustrating situation. We can all hope to be this enthusiastic the next time we walk up the escalators. Lighting is a little rough in this selfie but the background captures the authenticity of the CCNY campus.
Location: 4th Floor of Harris Hall
Caption: CCNY taking recycling seriously makes me joyous.
Review: What a great way to highlight CCNYs recycling stations. We are all trying to make a difference and this selfie really switched it up. The high angle allows for optimal lighting. We all get excited about environmental sustainability. This selfie makes me want to go vegan.
Location: 3rd Floor of Shepard Hall (Bathroom Look-Alike/Hallway)
Caption: Eating a pear, apparently.
Review: The lighting in this selfie is a little rough, I suggest turning around so you’re facing the window. The background of this selfie is slightly bland. However, a pear will always add some funk to a shot.
Location: NAC Roof
Caption: I’m on the roof of the NAC. 3333 Broadway in the back.
Review: What a radical photo. The background is incredible, it really showcases the beauty of Harlem and your adventurous side. Being this high up allows for the best lighting, would have loved to see a little more enthusiasm but the view is striking enough.
Location: Piano in NAC Rotunda
Caption: This out-of-tune piano gives non-music major students the chance to explore their musicality and play their favorite songs.
Review: The lighting in this photo is not optimal, try facing the window next time. This way you aren’t backlit. Despite the lighting, this is a casual selfie that depicts your musical side, it’s always nice to show your personality in your selfies.
Caption: The CCNY chimney seems to glow in the sun.
Review: What a nice day. The sun is shining giving you the bright light. This outfit offers great contrast with the sky and architecture. This low angle really works for Clark, he also gets the best angle to capture the beauty of the CCNY chimney.
Location: Compton & Goethals Basement
Caption: This facility’s workspace has good lighting. I wonder how many facilities employees take selfies on the job.
Review: More fantastic views of CCNY. The background really brings personality to this photo. Good question, this seems like a good selfie location, I wonder the same thing. Be careful when standing in front of lighting fixtures, they can alter the lighting in your selfie.
