Remembering 9/11, Best and Worst Majors and More--9/11/2012

September 11 Anniversary: It's been 11 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center. Pause, take a moment and reflect on the tragedy and what it's meant for our city.Art and Anthro Majors: Don't Read This Post! Kiplinger's recent list of the 10 worst college majors spells bad news for anyone studying anthropology, fine arts, philosophy and 7 other majors. Analyzing the unemployment rates and median salaries for recent grads--as well as growth in the field and likelihood of ending up in retail, anthropology ranks as the worst college major.Say the Kiplinger editors: "New anthropology majors face stifling unemployment, forcing nearly a third to take low-paying office or sales jobs. More dramatically, recent grads stand to make a mere $28,000 per year – less than the median pay for someone with only a high school diploma." Ouch!Best Career Majors? Enough negative news: Kiplinger also offers a link to an earlier story listing the 10 most lucrative career majors. Click here to see where yours ranks. Which career path is best? Hint: It rhymes with "barmacology."Why You Should Use on Campus Services! Hey, notice school fees are up? You're paying for services that the newly hiked fees cover, so get the most out of your $$. An article in U.S. News tells you how. First suggestion: use the student health center!!!!

Boon for Hunter College: Our collaboration with Stanford University last semester may have gone belly up. But another CUNY school is forging an alliance with Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital to create a bright and shiny new million square foot medical center overlooking the East River on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Hunter's Science and Health Professions program will inhabit most of the space. Read about it in the New York Observer.

Get the Test: Now's the time to get an HIV test, offered free today in the Hoffman Lounge in the NAC from 11 AM to 2 PM today. Administered by the Student Health Service, the test takes 20 minutes. It's a cheek swab; no need to have blood drawn.   Click here for more information.
